The group has been in existence since 1948. Since then, the group has entered into several successful business ventures, with interest in Finance, Energy, Beverage and Real Estate and last but not the least textile, the Group’s main forte. The Group is involved in the manufacturing of cotton yarns, grey and finished cloth and textile made ups. It is one of the leading exporters of textile products from Pakistan.
In the energy sector, Gul Ahmed Energy Group had successfully envisaged and implemented a Private Power Project under the 1994 Private Power Policy of the Government of Pakistan and setup a 136.17 MW private power plant in Korangi Industrial Area of Karachi. In this Tomen Corporation of Japan joined hands with Gul Ahmed to implement this project and Gul Ahmed Energy Limited was formed.
In this Gul Ahmed Energy Group, Toyota Tsusho Corporation of Japan, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Wartsila Diesel Oy of Finland had investment and were financing participants. O&M contract was managed by Wartsila Diesel Pakistan. Fuel supply for the project was under fuel Supply Agreement with Pakistan State Oil Expanding further into the power sector. Gul Ahmed Energy Limited set up Gul Ahmed Wind Power Limited which is 55.1% owned subsidiary of Gul Ahmed Energy Limited. This project is presently showcased as the representation of the Group in its present endeavors into the energy sector.
